Cooler King’s Rat.Rolla

You may have seen as at an event or two in the last year and noticed a big black hunk of english luxury ferrying a Cooler Kub in top. That’s the Rat.Rolla.

 

But how did we come across it and what’s the relevance for us? 

 

For us it’s represents what we love. Brutish, british style, uncompromising, powerful and eye catching. We make electric vehicles but we make no apologies for the 6.75 litre, 2.5 tons of british steel. This 1972 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is the perfect example of a positive ecological attitude. Running an old car has a much lower environmental impact than buying new and generally classics have a much lower carbon footprint too.

 

Having the Rat.Rolla carrying a Cooler Kub to events and displaying what we do on a more interesting platform than a raised pallet is more fun too. And having a Cooler King ebike is all about fun!

 

We came across our Rolls-Royce at an event hosted by Type2 Detectives, the VW and Porsche restoration gurus in 2023. It rumbled in on about 6 1/2 cylinders and we knew we had to have it! It had stood under a tree for a decade, unloved and undriven. Then the gentleman who rumbled in that day rescued it from a certain death, recommissioned it for slow road use and passed it our way. (They say that you never own a Rolls-Royce, you are just the temporary custodian).

 

Once back to Cooler HQ major work was carried out on the brakes, steering, fuel system and brakes (again) to get it starting, stopping and steering the way a Rolls-Royce should. Then we added our Cooler King branding (not in line with our brand kit, because that’s not what it needed). The interior is a work in progress and will be restored to original condition, leaving the exterior as is, honest and true, with a story to tell.
